San Diego Connects 120 Leaders Around Military Thriving

Event date: August 26, 2026 · San Diego, California

Participants discuss military-connected community priorities in a breakout session at National University.

Military Thriving grows through the connections people make close to home. On August 26, 2026, ZeroMils and National University brought 120 leaders together in San Diego to explore how those connections can work better for Veterans, military spouses, and their families.

The Regional Change Forum included military, community, education, nonprofit, government, and business leaders. Half of the participants were new to ZeroMils and National University, bringing new perspectives into the conversation.

A clear recommendation emerged: San Diego would benefit from a unified connection point for the organizations, initiatives, and resources already serving its military community. Participants also identified the need to capture and measure that work. The recommendation builds on resources already present in the region.

The forum contributed to ZeroMils’ ongoing work to develop Military Thriving communities through local collaboration. Bringing partners together helps them understand shared challenges, recognize existing strengths, and identify practical next steps. San Diego’s discussions added a regional perspective to the community blueprint developed through national Change Forums and local roundtables.
